Excerpt from the Introduction to Transform Your Game
Those who observe the sport of golf often think the game looks fun and easy—until they pick up a club and try hitting a ball! Beginning players quickly learn that golf is a complex sport requiring that all of ones faculties—emotional, mental, and physical—operate at their highest, most-controlled levels.
Serious golfers are never content with their game. Whether it is a change in grip, stance, swing, equipment, follow-through or even a player’s mental state, the fact remains: golf is a game of continuous transformation, made up of a number of fundamentals that, when mastered, result in more satisfaction and greater success.
As a family who golfs together, we fell into a pattern a while ago of golfing every Sunday. We meet up with Becky’s brother, Rick, and their 82-year-old mother. The stakes are high! We all come with varying levels of skill but the handicap system provides plenty of “friendly” competition for our weekly outing.
As a PGA Member and Instructor, Rick meets men and women everyday who want to change or improve some aspect of their golf games.
In our fields as a professional counselor (Roger) and motivational speaker (Becky), we constantly meet people longing to change or improve something in their lives.
When asked what they would like to change, people often mention their marriages, fitness levels, relationships, finances, or professional growth. A lot of people bring up unfulfilled dreams or long-term goals that seem unreachable.
Throughout Transform Your Game, we take nine golf fundamentals and pose the question, “How will this fundamental take me to a new level of personal and professional performance, achievement or transformation?”
The purpose of Transform Your Game is to inspire you to incorporate the proven fundamentals of golf into every area of your life, allowing them to positively enhance your performance—at work, at home, and especially on the course!
